A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The Installation of Officers was held on January 13,1933 and following the ceremony, dinner was served in the dining hall followed by dancing. In February their was a committee appointed to investigate the necessity of three children having need to enter the Masonic Homes for Children. Their father had passed and following the depression, their mother could not properly provide for them.
It is worth noting that at this time and the prior two years, there has seemed to be a big decrease in the amount of petitions being read and the amount of degree work being performed. In retrospect this was a very slow year for degree work and the slow down didn't really seem to bother anyone at the time.
In April the trustees of the Lodge were empowered to lease the three vacant lots we owned for a number of years if possible. Later this month Bro. Croyle P.M., warned the Lodge against "certain factions" who were trying to destroy the school system and undermine the authority of those who ran it.
In August there was discussion of letting the Baptist Church use a "glass communion set" that was owned by the Lodge. Evidently we gained possession of this when we purchased the old church building. The end result was that it was okay for them to use it but it remained property of the Lodge.
In December they read a communication from Past Grand Master Gist, about liquor being handled for profit and the Lodge being cautioned about such matters. This is a lesson many Mason's haven't learned to this day! heheheheh :)
May 24, 1962, Past Master Milton S. McMurtry, passed away at his home in Clovis. He was laid to rest on the 28th day of May 1962 in Clovis Cemetery. The large crowd of Mason's and friends attested to the high respect with which he was held in the community. "Dr. Mack" was a dedicated physician and surgeon of the pioneer type and served the community well in that respect. He was very active in Clovis Lodge and dedicated a considerable amount of time and effort into the improvement of the Lodge.
